PUGMILL: In Progress
JUNE 2025
PUGMILL had a three day residency at theatre royal plymouth, performing in their LAB space to share their research. We looked at dancer-choreographer relationships, playfulness and queer stories from Dartmoor.
LONDON STUDIO CENTRE COMISSION
JULY 2025
Jonny has made work on LSC's 2nd year contemporary pathway students. The work explores playfulness within the rehearsal room, communication and connection to music.
Research - Led.
PUGMILL's work aims to be led by dance research. This means that we try to be in a constant state of questioning what we do:
questions about our practice, how we can challenge it, develop it and move forward.

We also aim for our 'research' to be entertaining, accessible to those new to watching theatre and playful!

ABOUT PUGMILL
PUGMILL LAUNCHED IN 2025
The company explores ways of making new Dance, Music and Theatre and is based on Dartmoor National Park, in Devon.

We perform in village halls, theatres, pubs, barns, outdoors and more.

Our work is varied, but aims to ask questions and entertain.
PUGMILL: A machine used by potters, where raw materials are shaped into desired forms.
(A bit pretentious, but the name stuck)
Our Questions:

MUSIC
How can we make and perform music that communicates feelings, humanity and stories?
DANCE
How can we challenge our dance-trained bodies and enter conversations with our audiences through movement?
THEATRE
How can we write and devise entertaining theatre for today's audiences that ask questions about who we are, our communities and home?
COMBINED
How can we use our musician brain, dancing brain, theatre brain to create work in the other art forms, collaborating on skills and different mindsets?
Our
Launch
PUGMILL launched with a work in progress sharing at Theatre Royal Plymouth, after a couple of days residency at TR2, the production house for the theatre.

We explored presenting our research theatrically, dancer 'agency' (non-hierarchal rehearsal rooms), playfulness and playing music for dancers.
